Twenty firefighters from three different departments were called to a house fire near Island View Beach in Central Saanich Tuesday morning.

Crews from Central Saanich, Sidney and North Saanich were called to the home after the owner’s alarm company reported a fire. Neighbours then began phoning 911, saying there were flames shooting from the roof of the building.

“It was pretty hot when we arrived,” Assistant Chief John Robertson from the Central Saanich Fire Department said.

“There were flames coming out of two rear bedroom windows, out of the rear of the structure. It was pretty hot. It melted the gutters and melted the soffets.”

Firefighters were able to quickly put the flames out. There is significant smoke and water damage to the house but there is no estimate on the total cost at this time.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause is under investigation.
