Striking educational support workers walk the picket line as the strike ends its third week.

More than 7,000 Saanich students and teachers have spent three weeks out of the classroom and there’s no end in sight to the labour dispute keeping them away.

About 500 striking support workers from CUPE 441 continue to walk picket lines as they demand salary equity with counterparts in Sooke and Victoria School Districts.

Mark Hancock, the national president of CUPE, visited local picket lines today and says that Local 441 has the support of CUPE members across the country. “Nobody wants to be here, that’s the bottom line,” said Hancock. “These folks want to be in the schools, offering those services to these kids and making things better for things in the community.”

Talks broke down late last week between the union and School District 63. The B.C. government says it has no plans to intervene.
