West Shore RCMP says no charges will be forwarded after speaking to the suspect of an alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl on the Galloping Goose Trail.

The incident was reported to police July 9, when a 16-year-old said she was walking on the trail near Sooke Road and Happy Valley Road in Langford and was approached by a male.

Police said he asked for directions, then asked to shake the girl’s hand after she provided help.

She told police he pulled her in to hug her and gave her a kiss on the neck before being pushed away.

RCMP said he then thanked her and left the area.

A composite sketch of the suspect was released and police received several tips, which led to a positive identification of the male.

“The West Shore RCMP Serious Crimes Unit have conducted a thorough investigation into this complaint. They have located and spoken with the male who has been fully cooperative with police,” West Shore RCMP Cst. Nancy Saggar said in a statement.

“The investigation has been concluded and investigators have determined that criminal charges will not be forwarded in this incident. We thank the public for calling in the tips and helping us with this investigation.”
