A firearms investigation on Salt Spring Island that led to an “increased presence” of RCMP officers has come to an end without criminal charges, according to police.

In a news release Friday, police say Salt Spring RCMP and Vancouver Island’s General Investigation Section have completed an investigation that saw a search warrant issued on a home on Stewart Road on Tuesday.

BC RCMP spokesperson Chris Manseau say locals likely noticed a large police presence over the past few days, including specialized vehicles and an RCMP helicopter.

“Due to [the] nature of the initial information received, appropriate actions were taken [to] ensure the safety of the community, and the police officers on scene,” said Manseau in the release.

“The investigation has now concluded, and police determined there was no criminality with respect to the property or its owner,” he said.

The search warrant wrapped up without incident and with no threat to the public, said Manseau, also noting that investigators have updated those “directly involved.”

He added that during the search, officers arrested one person who has since been released. Police aren’t recommending charges against them.

RCMP are thanking the public for their patience as the investigation unfolded.
