A BC Ferry will sail with a delay for the remainder of Sunday following a mechanical issue that put some of its sailings at risk of cancellation.

In an updated notice Sunday afternoon, BC Ferries says the Queen of Alberni’s number two end gearbox has been partially repaired. That means it’s OK to sail, despite an early notice that indicated cancellations were likely.

“The sailings previously at risk of cancellation are expected to sail with a slight delay for the remainder of the day,” said BC Ferries around 2 p.m.

The boat takes passengers from Nanaimo’s Duke Point terminal to Vancouver’s Tsawwassen terminal and vice-versa, with non-stop sailings taking about two hours.

The Coastal Inspiration also sails this route.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of this mechanical issue,” added BC Ferries.

More sailing information, including schedules, is posted here.
