The Sooke School District says the opening of the Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School will be pushed back due to construction delays, and the 520 students registered for the school will temporarily attend other schools in the district.
The school was scheduled to be open for the start of the upcoming school year, but SD 62 said in an emailed statement that the opening will be delayed due to supply chain issues for construction materials and labour shortages.
Our occupancy of Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School has been delayed. A contingency plan has been developed to support students and staff in the interim.
PEXSISEN Elementary will be open for the first day of school.

The neighbouring elementary school, PEXSISEN Elementary, will open on time.
Due to the delay, students that were registered to start at Centre Mountain Lellum will attend other local schools. Grade 6 students will attend Spencer Middle School, Grade 7 will attend PEXSISEN Elementary, and Grade 8 students will attend Dunsmuir Middle School.
SD 62 tells CHEK News Spencer and Dunsmuir middle schools had portables to accommodate the students set to move to the new school and they will continue to be used until the Centre Mountain Lellum school is ready to open.
“Notifications of the delay went out to affected school staff yesterday and to families registered to attend CML, Dunsmuir, PEXSISEN and Spencer this morning via email,” the district said in a news release.
“Families who were registered in another district in June or have recently registered to attend school in our district may not have received an email notification due to rollover times for MyEducationBC accounts.”
The school is estimated to open in November.
Principals will be in contact with families with additional details in the coming weeks.
