New heliports at Campbell River and Comox Valley hospitals to open Wednesday

Helipads at two northern Vancouver Island hospitals will begin operations on Wednesday.

Starting at 6 a.m., the rooftop heliports at the Comox Valley and Campbell River campuses of the North Island Hospital will be open.

Island Health said the opening follows the training and orientation of flights crews, clinical staff and heliport operators, as well as air ambulance test flights and simulated patient transfers.

Both hospital heliports received Transport Canada certification in June.
