A new documentary is highlighting some of Vancouver Island’s longest and deepest caves.

The film, called Subterranean, features two teams trying to break records for traversing the longest and deepest caves in Canada.

The team on Vancouver Island spent its time trying to connect two tunnel systems to create the longest known cave in the country.

The other cave featured in the documentary is located in the Rockies, near Fernie. It showcases a flooded chamber that’s located kilometres underground and is the deepest recorded cave in Canada.

The 86-minute feature is being screened at festivals in B.C., Alberta and Europe.

It was shown in Port McNeill on Friday, and will be available on the Knowledge Network – also known as British Columbia’s Knowledge Network – on Nov. 7.
