An agreement has been reached between Saanich Police and its officers, nearly two years after the previous contract expired.

The collective agreement between the Saanich Police Board and Saanich Police Association expired December 31, 2015, and the two sides started  bargaining in September.

A settlement was reached in October and the parties have announced the deal has been ratified.

The new contract ends December 31, 2018, and comes with pay increases of three-and-a-half percent for 2016, two-and-a-half per cent for 2017 and two-and-a-half per cent for 2018.

Saanich Police said the agreement is in line with other municipal police in the province and consistent with contracts for Victoria and Central Saanich Police.

There were other minor changes to benefits and allowances.
