Users of five currently free recreation sites in the Campbell Lake area will have to pay starting next month for enhanced camping services.

The province says a new $15 fee will be charged effective May 15 at Dogwood Bay, Loon Bay, Apple Point, Brewster Camp and Gray Lake in the Sayward Forest.

The ministry of forests, lands, natural resource operations says the fee will offset higher levels of service with increased maintenance of the sites and regular visits by a site host.

Current fee-for-service sites exist at Campbell Lake, Brewster Lake and Orchard Meadow.

The province says the changes are being made to meet the increased demand for certainty of campsite availability and users’ requests for a higher level of service.

The ministry adds a large number of free sites throughout the area will continue to be maintained.

More information on recreation sites, including amenities, number of campsites and applicable fees can be found on the province’s sites and trails website.

The fees will apply to site users for any portion of a day or overnight and are in effect until early September.
