Streaming giant Netflix has targeted the community of Royal Beach in Colwood as being the filming hub for a future series, according to the city.
The new series will be titled “Maid” and the description by Netflix for the show reads “a single mother turns to housekeeping to make ends meet as she battles poverty, homelessness and bureaucracy. Based on the bestselling memoir.”
According to Colwood, film crews and equipment will start popping up in the area as early as the last weekend of September.
The Warner Bros/Netflix limited run 10-episode series is being filmed exclusively in the Victoria area between September 2020 and March 2021, added the City of Colwood.
The series is based on the bestselling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land.
The show will be told primarily through the point of view of the single mother and is described as being “a beautiful, alive, gritty and inspiring exploration of poverty.”

On the show’s IMDB page, it has attached Margaret Qualley – best known for her work in Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood – to the project as well as Nick Robinson, who was seen in Jurassic World.
The executive producer list also includes star actress, Margot Robbie.
Colwood is no stranger to movie productions as the iconic Hatley Castle has been featured in popular major projects like X-Men, Smallville, and Descendants to name a few.
“Showcasing Colwood’s beautiful west coast waterfront location at Royal Beach to national and international audiences through film is an exciting way to promote our City and attract new investment in our community,” reads a statement from the city.
The City of Colwood adds that the film industry in BC continues to create a multitude of business opportunities within the community.
