An escaped ram was recaptured Sunday in Central Saanich.

Some neighbours and Central Saanich police were able to recapture a ram that escaped from a property on Sunday.

Central Saanich Const. Ritchie Li said the ram was seen near the Benvenuto Avenue and West Saanich Road intersection at around 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 24. When police got to the area, the animal had moved off the road into a field.

According to Li some “good neighbours” help corral the ram onto their own fenced property. Overall, recapturing the animal took around 30 to 45 minutes.

The owner of the ram then came to pick the ram up.

The ram did not cause any injuries. Li said drivers were slowing down and meandering around the animal. Some stopped off the side of the road to take pictures.

Li said this is the first time he has seen a ram on the loose but there have been other escaped animals in the past from farms in the area. Back in January, dozens of chickens were found wandering around Central and North Saanich.  It was not clear whether the chickens escaped or were set free. The chickens were all adopted after being captured.
