Some recreational facilities in the Nanaimo region will be opening up tomorrow.

The City of Nanaimo and the Regional District of Nanaimo are planning to reopen a number of outdoor amenities as the province reduces measures implemented due to COVID-19.

The City of Nanaimo said in a media release that tennis courts, pickleball courts, gated dog off-leash parks, Steve Smith Bike Park, and the pump track at Beban Park will be open on May 14.

Courts are only available for single-use unless playing with people from the same household.

The Regional District of Nanaimo announced that Huxley Skate Park and sports courts will reopen on May 14. Sports will only be available for single play use only unless “playing with people from the same household” said the RDN.

Additionally, the Cedar Skate Park will reopen May 21.

Both the regional district and the city urge people to follow physical distancing guidelines, wash their hands properly before coming to the park and after leaving, and not to share equipment, food, water bottles or other personal items.
