A pocket of Nanaimo’s downtown core will be closed for more than a month this spring, as filming for an unspecified production takes over.
From April 22 to approximately May 31, filming will be taking place along Commercial Street, Wharf Street and Skinner Street surrounding Diana Krall Plaza.
While the filming will span roughly six weeks, it will roll out in three phases, with more roads being blocked off with each phase.
The first phase, which is scheduled to run for the entirety of shooting, will close Wharf Street to both vehicles and pedestrians.
There will also be no access to Diana Krall Plaza from Commercial Street during this time, but access to the Vancouver Island Regional Library will remain open.
Meanwhile, Grant Horne Lane will also remain open to traffic, and access to the parkade elevator will be maintained, according to the Downtown Nanaimo Business Association (DNBA).

Phase two of the filming will take over Skinner Street between early May and late May, though exact dates have not been determined as of Thursday.
Skinner Street will be closed to both pedestrians and vehicles between Bastion Street and Commercial Street, though access to the Harbour Front parkade will remain open.
The DNBA notes that all phase one closures will still be in effect while phase two closures are underway.

The third and final phase of closures will take over Commercial Street between Bastion Street and Terminal Avenue, beginning in early to mid-May, and ending in mid- to late May.
Most businesses that are located inside this stretch of Commercial Street will be closed during the filming, and pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be turned away.
Museum Way, and the areas blocked off by the previous two phases of filming, will also be closed during filming.
