Shelley Loeffen won $150,000 off a scratch and win ticket she bought to honour her friend.

What started as a way to honour a friend who passed away resulted in a Nanaimo woman winning the top prize on a scratch and win ticket.

Shelley Loeffen says she bought the Crossword Extreme ticket in her friend’s memory.

“It was her favourite and I purchased it to honour her,” Loeffen said in a news release.

Then when she scratched it, she at first didn’t believe her luck.

“At first, I was in denial and didn’t know if I should believe it. I thought it was a dream,” she said.

But when she checked her ticket, it all became a reality and she had, in fact, won $150,000.

Loeffen now plans on travelling to Holland with her winnings and investing in a new home.

BCLC says the odds of winning the top prize on the Crossword Extreme ticket is one in 350,000.
