A Nanaimo resident is about to give her sister quite the surprise after winning $500,000 in a recent Lotto 6/49 draw.
Barbara Randall from Nanaimo landed the prize on the Extra during the March 16, 2022, Lotto 6/49 draw, but says she will keep her excitement to herself for the time being and opt to keep it a secret from her sister.
Randall says instead she plans on showing up at her sister’s door with a brand new set of keys in order to reveal the news.
“I haven’t shared (the news) too much as I am going to surprise my sister with a new car,” Randall said. “My family was in the house when we found out, so we all shared the news together.”
Randall purchased her ticket at the lottery kiosk at the Nanaimo North Town Centre and found out she had won using the BCLC Lotto! app.
According to Randall, she’s feeling “overwhelmed” and “very happy” about her unexpected prize.
“It’s hard to believe,” she said, “I have always wanted to get my sister a vehicle to help her out.”
In addition to some new wheels, Randall said she will spend some of her winnings on home renovations and book a trip to the Maritimes to visit family.
