An adult motorcyclist is in the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries after he lost control while swerving to avoid being hit by the driver of a pick-up truck on the Nanaimo Parkway.

Around 1 p.m. on Sept. 14, in the northbound lanes north of the exit ramp heading to Parksville and Campbell River, the driver of a white pick-up truck initiated a lane change while a motorcycle was beside the truck.

The motorcyclist then swerved to avoid being hit, and lost control and ended up in the nearby ditch, according to two witnesses.

Neither witness were able to provide a plate, make or model for the pick-up truck, which did not stop.

BC Emergency Health Services, which also attended with RCMP and Nanaimo fire, treated the motorcyclist at the scene and brought them to Nanaimo hospital, where he remains.

Anyone who was driving in the area between 12:45 and 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 14 is asked to check their dash cam video. Anyone with information who has not spoken with police is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
