Nanaimo RCMP are asking for help to track down a male suspect who assaulted and threatened to stab a store employee.

Police say the incident happened Jan. 11 at around 6 p.m. at an unidentified north Nanaimo business.

Attending officers spoke with the 26-year-old male employee who said he approached the suspect after watching him try to leave the store without paying for two speakers valued at $1,500.

Police say the suspect punched the employee several times, then threatened to stab him with a knife, which was not produced but the individual alluded to it being in his pocket.

RCMP say the employee was left shaken from the confrontation but was not injured.

The suspect is described by police as a white male in his late 30s, with greying brown hair and was wearing a large khaki sweater and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
