Investigators in Nanaimo are hoping to locate a stolen car that may be connected to a recent homicide.
Mounties say they were called to a 33-year-old Nanaimo woman’s apartment on Jan. 10 to conduct a wellness check.
When officers arrived, they found several people at the apartment. Those bystanders told police that they had seen an unknown man inside the woman’s apartment, along with her body.
The man fled the scene despite the bystander’s attempts to stop him before officers arrived, according to RCMP.
About one week later, on Jan. 16, police say they believed the woman’s death was in fact a homicide.
The man who was in the apartment and fled was later identified and spoke with police, according to RCMP.
Mounties told CHEK News they were unable to confirm if he is considered a suspect or not at this time.
On Thursday, RCMP said they were hoping the public could help locate a gray 2007 Nissan Sentra that may be connected to the case.
The vehicle has BC licence plate SP272P and has been reported stolen. A stock photo of the vehicle can be found at the top of this story.
Anyone who spots the vehicle, or who may have information on its whereabouts, is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
“This investigation is ongoing and at this time, police do not believe there is any risk to the public,” said reserve Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP in a release Thursday.
