Mounties in Nanaimo are hoping the public can help them locate a missing teenage boy.

Gaige Knighton, 17, was last seen riding a purple BMX bike and carrying a brown backpack on Sept. 5, according a Nanaimo RCMP press release.

Mounties say Knighton was reported missing that same day and despite multiple search efforts conducted by officers, friends and caregivers, he remains missing.

At the time of his disappearance, Knighton took a few personal items with him from home and police believe he may be living in a tent. The 17-year-old is also known to frequent skate parks in Nanaimo and does not have a mobile device.

Knighton is described as 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red sweater, camouflage pants, and tan coloured boots.
