A woman was nabbed quickly by law enforcement following a robbery at a grocery store in Nanaimo’s north end but another suspect remains on the loose.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, two suspects reportedly robbed the Save-On-Foods on Island Highway North near Woodgrove Centre at around 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Mounties say that during the robbery, the store’s employees attempted to reclaim the stolen items when the two suspects — a man and a woman — threatened them with a knife and a pipe.

Officers quickly descended on the area and were able to locate and arrest the female suspect within a few minutes of receiving the call.

“Thanks to a quick, coordinated response by responding members, the female suspect was arrested within a few minutes of the call to 911. She will be brought before a judge to determine what charges will be approved and to determine whether she will remain in custody or be released on conditions,” Const. Simon Gallimore, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP, said in a press release.

However, officers were unable to locate the male suspect, who they say is shorter stature, with red hair and was last seen riding a red mountain bike at the time of the incident.

As a result, Nanaimo RCMP are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to contact their non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2021-33903.
