Nanaimo RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two possible suspects following the theft of a camera from a sushi restaurant parking lot.

Police say that the theft of the camera occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, near Seto Sushi. The sushi restaurant is located at 4286 Departure Bay Road.

Nanaimo RCMP says that the owner of the camera told officers that he is an insurance adjuster and he was taking pictures of the sushi restaurant for work purposes.

The owner claims he forgot something in the restaurant and placed the camera on the ground for less than a minute while he went inside, but when he returned, the camera was gone.

After reviewing security footage of the parking lot, an RCMP investigator was able to see that after the camera was placed on the ground by its owner, two suspects could be seen walking in the direction of the camera and picking up a small black object, then walking away.

RCMP believes these two suspects are the camera thieves and are looking to the public in order to identify them.

The two suspects are women between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. Both suspects had long dark hair and were wearing dark pants at the time of the incident.

A picture of the suspects can be seen below.

The stolen camera is a black Nikon D90 valued at almost $2,000.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identification of the two suspects is being asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2021-22893.
