Nanaimo RCMP is reaching out to the public for help identifying a suspect who allegedly stole a vacuum, while also seeking the rightful owner of a recovered stolen E-bike.

Regarding the vacuum, police say the alleged theft took place on April 7 at approximately 7 p.m. Officers responded to the report made from Lowe’s after the theft had just occurred. An employee told the attending officer that they witnessed an unknown person run from the store without paying for a vacuum — described as a Hoover Impulse.

Police were told that an employee followed the suspect at a safe distance then eventually lost sight of him in the area of Rutherford Road.

The suspect is described as a man, between the ages of 35-45 years old, sporting a beard and wearing dark clothing.

Nearly a week later as part of a separate incident, police recovered an E-bike while conducting a foot patrol of a deconstructed homeless encampment situated behind Galaxy Motors.

Police say that several individuals at the encampment denied any knowledge of the bike or where it came from.

Based on the value of the e-bike and its condition, officers seized it for safe-keeping. The bike is an orange Rayvolt Cruzer with a retail value of between $4000 and $6000.

Anyone with information on either the vacuum theft or the recovered E-bike is being asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
