Nanaimo RCMP are looking for witnesses after an early-morning crash on Dec. 1 that left an 87-year-old woman with serious injuries.

Police said the collision occurred at around 6 a.m. at the Bowen Road and Dufferin Crescent intersection.

According to police, the collision involved a 2012 red Nissan Versa driven by the woman and a 2002 Nissan Xterra with an Alberta licence plate, driven by a 23-year-old man. Police have determined the man was going south on Bowen Road and he turned left in front of the Nissa Xterra, which was travelling north.

Police said the woman was driving through a green light.

Due to the impact of the collision and her age, the woman suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital by EHS. She remains in hospital.

The man had minor injuries.

Now police are asking for witnesses to the collision to call them at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2018-44093.

Given the time of the day and location of the collision, investigators believe there may have been several witnesses to the collision, and investigators would like to speak with them, Const.Gary O’Brien, media relations officer with the Nanaimo RCMP, said in a statement.
