Nanaimo RCMP looking for two suspects in attempted barn break-in

Nanaimo RCMP arrested a 36-year-old man for the attempted break-and-enter. but are looking for two other suspects.

Nanaimo police say they are confident they will determine the identities of two males who allegedly attempted to break into a barn in Cedar.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the owner of a property in the 1200 block of Maughan Road reported to officers that at approximately 10 a.m. on April 26, he noticed the lock on his barn door had been broken off and then heard a vehicle horn sounding. He then saw two men running from his property.

Police Dog Services attended and tracked the two males but were unable to locate them. Office located bolt cutters and evidence was also found along the track which is believed to be associated with the suspects.

The owner was able to get a photo of the driver of the vehicle and the license plate, which led the arrest of a 36-year-old man for the attempted break-and-enter.

Police say they the man is the registered owner of the suspect vehicle and was seen driving it near his home.

He has since been released and is expected to appear in Nanaimo court on July 7.

However, another male suspect and the female driver were not located but police say they are “confident” that the suspects will be identified.
