Nanaimo RCMP officers are looking into a report that a body was seen floating in Westwood Lake over the weekend.

According to police, officers received a report at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 25 after a woman thought she may have seen something in the water while she was out paddle-boarding.

In a report to police, the woman told officers that she was near the south end of the lake when she first saw the alleged body.

The woman says she immediately paddled to the lifeguard station and called 911. RCMP officers, fire and BC Paramedics also responded to the scene.

Authorities assessed the area where the woman said she had spotted the body but were unable to locate anything.

“There have been no further reports. Police will continue to monitor the area and are prepared to respond immediately should there be any further sightings,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

If anyone has information on the incident, they are being asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2021-27551.
