The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating the death of a 30-year-old man after officers found him dead during a welfare check.

Police say frontline officers responded to a Nanaimo residence on Aug. 12 at approximately 3 p.m. in order to conduct the welfare check after receiving information from the Kelowna RCMP.

Upon entering the residence, police located a man who was deceased.

The man’s death was considered suspicious and the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit was called to take over the incident as a homicide investigation.

Police have identified the man as 30-year-old Ryan Mosher — a 30-year-old who recently moved to Nanaimo from Kelowna.

With both Kelowna and Nanaimo RCMP detachments investigating the homicide, police have decided to identify Mosher in the hopes that it will assist in advancing the investigation.

We strongly believe Mr. Mosher’s death is an isolated incident and the general public is not considered to be at risk, states Cst. Derek Balderston of the Nanaimo RCMP. Investigators have spoken to numerous people both from Kelowna and Nanaimo to assist in establishing what may have occurred.

Anyone with information that might be relevant to this investigation is being asked to contact the Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit at 250-754-2345.
