Nanaimo RCMP are looking into an incident that took place on Sunday after one man was shot in the abdomen.

Cst. Gary O’Brien confirmed with CHEK News that the man had been shot yesterday afternoon.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries that could be life-threatening. The adult male currently remains in hospital.

Police responded to a house located at 5705 Malpass Road in the north end of Nanaimo shortly after 3 p.m., according to neighbours in the area.

Police said a short time later, an adult male arrived at the home and was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police are not searching for additional suspects or victims and do not believe there is any further risk to the public.

A perimeter was set up at the property and police remained onsite until around 11 p.m. at night.

According to authorities, a search warrant was executed on the premise Sunday evening.

Evidence gathered lead officers to a second undisclosed location in Nanaimo where investigators are currently in the process of obtaining a search warrant.

At this time, it isn’t exactly clear how the events of the shooting unfolded, however, CHEK News is currently looking into the matter.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
