Nanaimo police continue search of Metral Drive property, charges laid

A man and two women face numerous charges as Nanaimo RCMP continue to search the property of a north Nanaimo home for stolen items Friday.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien says a search warrant authorized to go through outlying buildings on a property in the 5000-block of Metral Drive has found between 30 and 40 bikes, which are believed to be stolen.

Officers began an investigation into the home Wednesday night after spotting a pick-up truck leaving the property around 8:45 p.m. with two men inside.

A license plate check found the truck to be stolen and the vehicle was stopped a short time later near Alsop Road and the two men were arrested.

Police found “street level” amounts of opioids, cocaine and methamphetamine, along with an unloaded 22-calibre handgun and a magazine.

The 34-year-old driver, Joel Kelly Millette of Nanaimo, remains in custody and has been charged with 13 counts of drug and firearm-related offences.

The 37-year-old male passenger was arrested on several outstanding warrants and was later released.

The Nanaimo RCMP drug unit and Island Emergency Response Team descended on the Metral Drive home Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. and found two women inside.

Officers located a number of drugs suspected of being opioids, cocaine and methamphetamine and arrested the 35 and 41-year-old women.

They both remain in custody and face drug-related charges.
