Nanaimo Mounties say no one was injured when a motorhome was destroyed in a fire they suspect to be arson, Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called out to the 600 block of Albert Street in Nanaimo around 8:30 p.m. on March 29 to battle the blaze and managed to get it under control before it spread.

According to witness reports, a man was seen fleeing the vehicle as flames were “shooting out from it,” before they last saw him running southbound along the railway tracks that parallel Milton Street.

Police are investigating the incident as an arson.

Those who saw the man suspect him to be an unhoused individual and describe him as a five feet six inches and was last seen wearing a hat and overcoat.

Anyone with more information about the late-night fire should notify the Nanaimo RCMP by calling 250-754-2345.
