More than a dozen people have been forced to flee their homes near the Nanaimo river due to flooding.
CHEK News has learned that 13 people residing at a mobile home park on Raines Road near the Nanaimo River had to evacuate Monday due to flooding.
Nanaimo Search and Rescue crews are at the park attempting to locate and rescue anyone who was unable to flee. The owner of the mobile home park, however, told CHEK News that all the residents have been accounted for.
Meanwhile, the Nanaimo Regional District is warning residents that flooding is occurring on both the Nanaimo River and the Englishmen River, near Parksville, and that water levels are expected to continue to rise into the afternoon.
“Residents in low-lying areas are encouraged to take precautions and if flooding occurs, move to higher ground. Stay away from river and stream banks as fast-moving water conditions are very dangerous,” the regional district said in a statement on its website.
