A Nanaimo resident is $2 million richer after winning the BC/49 lottery at the end of October.

According to the BCLC, Brad Rowan made a “split-second decision” to use a single dollar that he won on a Daily Grand ticket and purchase a BC/49 ticket. He purchased the ticket online at the organization’s PlayNow website.

Rowan bought only a single line of numbers, which was all he needed to earn a “seriously awesome down payment on his newly-purchased home,” said BCLC in a press release issued Thursday.

Rowan, who purchased the numbers 6, 22, 26, 32, 38, and 45, won the money during the Oct. 28draw.

“Oh my God!” were the first words from Rowan’s partner after he shared the news with her, BCLC said in the release.

Rowan, who works in the forestry industry on Vancouver Island, called his boss following the win and said “I told him I was going to take the day off.”

According to BCLC, Rowan and his partner were already in the final stages of purchasing a home before he won and he highlights that his mortgage payments will look a little different now.

So far in 2020, British Columbians have claimed more than $15 million in BC/49 prizes, says BCLC.

BCLC adds that BC/49 lottery tickets can be purchased at lottery retail locations and online at PlayNow.com, with tickets available for the Wednesday and Sunday draws.
