Nanaimo RCMP arrested 34-year-old Jordan David Shepherd early Thursday morning. Shepherd was wanted on numerous fraud-related charges.

A Nanaimo man wanted on a number of fraud charges was arrested early Thursday morning and will appear in court later today.

Police took 34-year-old Jordan David Shepherd into custody without incident when he was found sleeping in a parked vehicle outside a local motel.

Ladysmith RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant for Shepard, who was also wanted for five counts of fraud under $5,000 in Nanaimo and another fraud charge in New Westminster.

Shepherd, who also went by the name Dave Rofter, reportedly befriended his victims in person or online and asked them to deposit a cheque for him, in their account, ranging from $1,000 to $1,600.

The cheque is written on his purported business account called “On the Rocks Surveying”, which does not exist.

Nanaimo RCMP got a huge response after releasing Shepherd’s information Wednesday afternoon.

“The news release concerning Shepherd was posted to our detachment Facebook account and within hours was viewed 20,000 times and shared over 700 times,” Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien said.

“Additionally other victims have now come forward and are willing to meet with investigators and tell their story.”

Shepard appeared in Nanaimo court on Thursday morning. He will be held in custody until a bail hearing on March 5.
