Earlier on Friday, Nanaimo RCMP put Nanaimo District Secondary School into a hold and secure pattern due to reports of a youth seen on school grounds with a weapon.

According to RCMP, the hold and secure was put in place after consultation with police, school administrators and district administrators.

The hold and secure was enacted at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 4. The youth that was reported to have a weapon was said to be known to police.

Officers situated themselves inside the school and on school grounds.

By 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the hold and secure was lifted and school activities resumed as normal.

Police say they have been unable to confirm what, if any, weapon the youth had in his possession.

The youth was never located, although RCMP say one investigator spoke with him over the phone and he denied having any weapon in his possession.
