A first-term Nanaimo city councillor is now the chairperson of the Regional District of Nanaimo board.
Tyler Brown was recently elected as chairperson Regional District of Nanaimo board while Vanessa Craig was elected vice-chair.
The RDN’s board is comprised of 19 elected officials, who represent four municipalities and seven electoral areas, who vote for a chairperson and vice-chairperson.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be elected by my colleagues to serve the RDN Board in governing the affairs of the district,” Brown said in a press release, adding. “Decisions regarding public policies, bylaws and key services throughout the region will continue to be sensitive to the priorities and needs of our residents.”
Brown is a first-term Nanaimo city councillor, elected in 2018 and was an RDN director prior to becoming chair of the board. He previously worked for the Regional District of Nanaimo as an intergovernmental liaison but resigned when he became a city councillor.
Brown’s term as chairperson is expected to last until at least next fall.
