Nanaimo byelection 2019 LIVE UPDATES: BC NDP’s Sheila Malcolmson wins Nanaimo byelection

Nanaimo residents went to the polls today to vote for a new MLA.

A byelection was called earlier this month to replace Leonard Krog, the five-term NDP member of the legislature who resigned his seat last year after being elected mayor of Nanaimo.

The BC NDP’s Sheila Malcomson has won the byelection, which means the NDP will continue to hold power with the support of three Green party members in the legislature. The Liberals have 42 seats and Speaker Darryl Plecas sits as an Independent.
