Nanaimo bookkeeper who embezzled $50K sentenced

A former bookkeeper in Nanaimo was sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence followed by two-years probation for embezzling almost $50,000.

Riki Aspin, 44, pleaded guilty to a single charge of fraud over $5,000 during her employment at Coastal Installations Limited.

In an agreed statement of facts, Aspin admitted to paying herself additional wages without authorization from her former employer’s bank account between October and December 2019.

Aspin has been ordered to pay the money back.

Prior to this she had no criminal record.
