People trying to beat the heat at a Nanaimo park may have been able to catch a surprise concert Sunday.

Performing a blend of rock and jazz, the Zilch Band kept everyone entertained at Piper’s Lagoon Park.

They’re using a different stage than what you would see at a traditional show, the band is performing on top of their 1978 Volkswagen Bus.

“It’s easy to do, we can do it ourselves, you can go outside and listen to live music. Come out, play some free music for people and hopefully everyone likes it,” said Lawson Wallace, the band’s bass player.

They’ve already performed a handful of shows on top of their Volkswagen up and down the island and this is just their latest stop.

The three-piece band started playing these untraditional shows because the bars have been closed for a large portion of the pandemic.
