The lockdown of hundreds of students in Nanaimo was lifted at 11:20 a.m.
Earlier in the morning, School District 68 held three Nanaimo schools in variations of a lockdown procedure following an unspecified threat toward Dover Bay Secondary School.
Dover Bay Secondary School was in full lockdown. McGirr Elementary School, which is across the street from Dover, was in ‘hold and secure’ as a precautionary measure. Nanaimo District Secondary School, which is across town, was also in a hold and secure. Police and the school district said the school may be related to the incident.
Update: Dover Bay, McGirr and NDSS are now on Lock Down. Again, this is out of an abundance only. We are asking parents and caregivers to please avoid the area and do not call these schools for updates or informatio. We will provide updates when available @sd68bc @cityofnanaimo

Dale Burgos, Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools’ spokesperson, confirmed Dover Bay received the threat but there was no threat inside the school. Nanaimo RCMP officers investigated around the interior of the school during the lockdown.
Out of an abundance of caution and to address any questions or concerns parents may have, two officers will remain at each school for the remainder of the day.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and if anyone has any information they are asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
