The Mount Washington Alpine Resort will open a week earlier this season after heavy snowfall in November.

The resort announced on Thursday that the Eagle Express Chairlift will open for a preview weekend from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3.

Mount Washington has seen cold temperatures and storms throughout this month. To date, the resort has received a total snowfall of more than two metres for the 2017-18 winter season.

“We have been closely monitoring the weather patterns,” Peter Gibson, the general manager of Mount Washington, said in a statement. “The resort has experienced significant early-season accumulation. Although we had a high freezing level for a couple of days this week, it was followed closely by a temperature drop. This combination is perfect for creating a solid snow base which is currently measured at over 1 metre in the alpine.”

This is the first time in five years the resort has opened early. The resort will begin its full winter operation on Dec. 8.

All season pass holders (Gold, Alpine, Midweek, Nordic, Graduate and Rookie) can ride the lift with their pass for the preview weekend. For people with day tickets, lift tickets will be available to buy at the resort at reduced rates. Adults will be able to ski for $67 per day.
