A 76-year-old Ladysmith man faces criminal charges of Impaired Driving and Driving Over 80 mg/% after a 2-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning.

It happened at the intersection of High Street and 4th Avenue in Ladysmith around 10:15 a.m.

RCMP say the driver’s vehicle proceeded through a stop sign on High Street, striking a vehicle travelling northbound on 4th Avenue which had the right of way.

The suspected drunk driver was not hurt, the driver of the other vehicle appeared to suffer only minor injuries.  Both were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Both vehicles were badly damaged.

The RCMP say alcohol is believed to be a  contributing factor and the driver proceeded when it was unsafe to do so.

He will be the 135th motorist to be charged in 2018 by Ladysmith RCMP for impaired driving.
