A motorcycle collided with a tree near the intersection of Quadra and Union, sending the driver to hospital.

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after colliding with a tree near the intersection of Quadra St and Union Rd.

Eyewitnesses also say that the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and landed in a nearby yard, and was later taken to hospital.

Saanich Police closed Quadra Street northbound between Union Rd and Reynolds St to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic starting around 5 p.m. Police also advised that southbound traffic could be affected while they investigated.

By 8 p.m. police re-opened the street to traffic.

Saanich Police say that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved. They also confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred one block from where 19-year-old Danny Schupbach was killed in another motorcycle crash. Police say the proximity of the incidents is concerning.
