Motorcyclist killed in three-vehicle crash on Highway 19A in Nanaimo

WATCH: Two men are dead following separate crashes on Highway 19A and Highway 4 Friday afternoon. Skye Ryan has more from Highway 19A in Nanaimo.

A motorcyclist died Friday afternoon after a three-vehicle crash on Highway 19A.

Nanaimo RCMP responded to the crash at around 12 p.m. on Highway 19A near the Norwell Drive and Jingle Pot Road intersection.

Two vehicles and one motorcycle was involved in the crash. According to police, the motorcyclist died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police said the drivers of the vehicles were taken to hospital with minor injuries by paramedics for precaution only.

The northbound lane of Highway 19A was closed between Bowen Road and Norwell Drive for almost four hours after the crash. The lane is now open but drivers may still see delays due to congestion.

The BC Coroners Service has been advised and is going to the crash site, along with an RCMP Traffic Analyst. The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released but police did say he was in his late 50s or early 60s.
