A man is in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, after a crash involving his motorcycle in Nanaimo Monday afternoon.

RCMP say a man in his 50’s driving an older model Harley just after 5 p.m. collided with a bus.

He was travelling southbound on Highway 19, near the city’s welcome sign in north Nanaimo.

His motorcycle caught fire after the accident, and after being treated on the scene he was flown to a hospital in Victoria.

“We are not sure what caused [the accident], but it is a significant and we are investigating,” said Cst. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Traffic was backed in the area following the incident.
