A mother out for a walk with her two children was seriously injured after being struck by a motorist in Saanich Monday evening, police say.

Saanich Police officers were called to the North Quadra area at around 7:10 p.m. following a report of a pedestrian hit by a motorist turning left from Quadra Street onto Lily Avenue.

In a statement to CHEK News, police say the woman was pushing a stroller with her children when she was struck in the intersection.

“The stroller carrying the children was not hit by the vehicle and fortunately, the children were not injured. The mother was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” according to Const. Markus Anastasiades.

Anastasiades says the intersection was closed for “several hours” while collision analysts processed the scene.

“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police,” he added. “While the investigation is still early, driver impairment has been ruled out.”
