Travellers on the Spirit of Vancouver Island between Victoria (Swartz Bay) and Vancouver (Tsawwassen) will be delayed after the 7 a.m. sailing was delayed 38 minutes for crew availability.

In a notice posted to its website at 6:56 a.m., the company made the announcement, saying it needs a specific number of crew members in order to sail the vessel, and a replacement crew member was on the way.

At 7:39 a.m., the company announced the sailing was able to leave 38 minutes behind schedule.

As a result, sailings on the Spirit of Vancouver Island will be running behind schedule, though the company says the crew will work to make up time throughout the day.

The company does not say what led to a replacement crew member being necessary. CHEK News has reached out for more information.

“Despite the delay, please arrive during the check-in window noted in your booking confirmation email to maintain your reserved status,” BC Ferries says in a notice on its website. “This ensures we can stage your vehicle at the terminal ahead of standby customers and those reserved on later sailings.”

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of this delay.”
