After a beautiful Saturday for much of Vancouver Island, rain, lots of it, is on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for eastern Vancouver Island — Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay — saying that a “moisture-laden frontal system” is expected to bring heavy rain to the region on Sunday. The warning also applies to parts of Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound.

“Rain will begin Sunday morning and will continue Sunday night,” the weather agency said in a statement on its website.

Environment Canada says anywhere from 50 to 70 millimetres of rain is expected to fall during this time.

The weather agency also says strong southeasterly winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/hour are also expected throughout Sunday.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada said on its website.
