A mechanical issue with a B.C. Ferries vessel has resulted in two cancelled sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen.

The 11:00 a.m. departing Swartz Bay and the 1:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen have been impacted.

The Spirit of Vancouver Island is having a mechanical difficulty with one of the upper car deck visor doors not opening. The vessel is expected to be back in service for the 3 p.m. sailing out of Swartz Bay.

It took two hours for some passengers to fully depart, as the vessel had to turn around and those on the upper deck had to back out of the vessel.

No additional trips are expected to be impacted

There is now a two sailing car and oversize vehicle wait from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. Departing Swartz Bay to the mainland, customers are facing a one-sailing wait.

B.C. Ferries say that reserved customers will be accommodated on the next available sailing, and that they apologize for any inconvenience caused.
