A man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital after he was stabbed in Sidney’s downtown core over the weekend, according to RCMP.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP received a report of a stabbing around 11 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Beacon Avenue and Fifth Street, where officers arrived on scene to find a man “suffering from serious injuries,” Const. Tim Cosgrove tells CHEK News.

RCMP say the victim was known to officers. BC Emergency Health Services paramedics transported him to hospital, where he is currently being treated.

Cosgrove says police are searching for the suspect.

“The Sidney RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS) has conduct of the investigation, and is currently gathering evidence and working to identify the male suspect,” Cosgrove added in a statement.

A photo posted to a local Facebook group later that night shows what appears to be police cars stopped in the 2300-block of Beacon Avenue. The person who posted the photo says they walked past a bus stop that was taped off.

RCMP say there is no reason to believe there is any risk to the general public, and that no further information is available at this time.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the RCMP department at 250-656-3931.
