Authorities say a 27-year-old man is in hospital recovering from a life-threatening stab wound after an incident Wednesday night at the Nanaimo tent city.

Nanaimo RCMP says an 18-year-old man was identified by police and arrested without incident a short time after the stabbing occurred around 7:30 p.m.

Police officers were on the scene at 1 Port Place within minutes after the incident was reported and the victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Police say the suspect was arrested on one count of aggravated assault and will make an appearance in Nanaimo provincial court Thursday.

RCMP is asking anyone who has information about the incident to call police or Crime Stoppers.
